Musicals centering Black characters are a rarity. Animated films that center Black characters are just as seldom. Therefore, it is a treat when we see the two genres combined with Black characters front and center. Chaz Bottoms does this with his musical short, chronicles the story of Otis and Jada, two kids who compete for a spot in the prestigious Hiplet dance troupe.

How All Kids Go to Hell went from the classroom to Cannes

A year ago, Chaz Bottoms was graduating from DePaul University's BA in animation. His senior thesis project, a seven-minute short titled All Kids Go to Hell , was just beginning its international journey. The film would go on to be screened across the United States, in Italy and at the 2018 Cannes Festival Corner - successfully bridging the gap between academic and audience acclaim.

Two kids accidentally ask the devil to adopt them in Chaz Bottom's latest animated short, "All Kids Go To Hell". A satirical film inspired by old-school Warner Bros. animation and Bottom's cheeky imagination, "All Kids" follows the orphaned siblings who unknowingly use an Ouija board and, uh, summon their new parent.
